Roots Family Connection Program

Cost: free of charge

Roots is a year-round program that runs for eight weeks, four quarters per year. The program is specifically designed for families facing difficult life circumstances and parents who desire to develop family-building skills.  Classes are held one evening per week from 6:00pm – 8:00pm in Bellingham at ALife Church on Meridian and Nooksack Valley Christ Community Church in Everson and begins with a hot meal.

Nursery care provided for children 4 and under.

Parenting Class:

Parents learn the Positive Behavior Intervention Supports system, used by many school districts.  The course also employs interactive, experiential role-play that allows parents to bring real-life issues they are dealing with to the class. A key component of the Roots Parenting Class is the sense of community that is created among participants.  Families who have experienced trauma tend to isolate as a result of embarrassment, anger at circumstances beyond their control, or fear of being judged.  Parents have the opportunity to connect on a deeper level not only with their own families, but with their peers.

Kids Groups:

Roots Kids Groups are a safe and encouraging place for elementary and middle school kids who are facing difficult life challenges as a result of family disruption, foster/adoption issues, emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, poverty and neglect.  Kids learn the life skills necessary to understand, talk about, and cope with what is happening in their lives in healthy, positive ways.  Kids meet at the same time as Parenting Class.
